PROFESSIONAL

"There are no easy achievements. It is the winding roads that lead to the right path. The professional, in any craft, will achieve triumph from a tenacious, strong, obstinate spirit."

Afonso Opazo

THE PROFESSIONAL

Douglas Sant'Ana da Cunha was a military officer at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy / RJ where he served in the Basic Course and soon after leaving the military, specialized in logistics, starting his activities in favor of vulnerable populations.

In 2011, extremely mobilized and already expertly capable in his area, he went to Teresópolis / RJ where he consulted with the processes of assistance to the victims of what was considered the biggest natural disaster in Brazil.

Specialized in: Disaster Risk Management by UNDP (United Nations National Development Program), Basic Course in Civil Defense and S2ID Course by UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina) in partnership National Civil Defense, Community Emergency Response Teams which is directed to the Community Emergency Response teams conducted by the US Department of Interned Security, and The Sphere Handbook in Action e-learning course where a Disaster Response and Action Handbook is studied. The Sphere Project (USA) also sought knowledge in disaster-related areas such as assistance to victims of natural disasters through reestablishment of family ties and emergency psychosocial support, and work with disaster victims by the International Cross Federation Psychosocial Center Red.

Anticipating the demand for capacity building for outbreaks of disease and epidemics, it participated in capacity building of the Pandemic Preparedness Program (H2P) taught by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent. Understanding that, to be effective in the disaster response, financial support and restructuring were required, courses were taken: Financial Transfer Programming, Introduction to Governance and Resource Management, and Introduction to Laws, Standards, and Principles of Response to International Disasters all ministered by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent.

He also acted in other major natural disasters in our country: the flood episode in Vitória / ES (2013), Mariana / MG (2015) and recently in Brumadinho / MG (2019).

Certain of the importance of spreading his knowledge for the common good, he now acts as a speaker, sometimes as a consultant to various institutions.

Douglas continues to specialize and spread his ideas and knowledge for disaster victims, believing that the power of nature does not choose social class, ethnicity, religion, gender or age, and that his work could enable the "restart" of victims in their entirety. and worthy. According to him, humanitarian logistics will only exist with everyone together and convinced that we are only part of a cog as the purpose of the common good.
